Plumbing Consulting
Plumbing consulting is the special name given to the highly skilled and highly trained profession of plumbing. The professionals in the plumbing consulting field have many years experience and knowledge working on the most complex and difficult plumbing problems. The majority of the time, a plumbing consultant can often be found working in the corporate world or large building projects rather than the typical "at home" plumbing issues that might arise.
Plumbing consulting is an exceptionally well paid and highly valued occupation and it is no exaggeration to claim that a person who has the necessary skills and experience will be able to name their price to work on certain projects, hence where the name consulting comes in.
Rather than working for other firms or for other people, the highly regard plumbers recognize that they can make more from their careers by working for themselves either as consultants or by running their own companies. Due to the dearth in high end skills and experience, it would be very unusual for a plumbing consultant to go too long without work or a project, unless they chose to do so of course.
Plumbing consulting is still largely an American phrase, however it is popping up in different parts of the world. In the UK for example, it is not uncommon for the older more experience plumbers to re-brand themselves as consultants and extend their career by offering to teach and coach budding plumbers through college or other plumbing courses.
Of course, most people are aware that it would be very easy for anyone to claim they were a plumbing consultant, even if they did not have the necessary skills. So it is very important that you continue to do your homework before selecting a plumber, whether this be for your own home or your place of work. You can do this by checking their own certificates and training or by checking with your own local plumbing association to see whether they are a signed up member.
You might also want to consider using an organization such as SafeTrade who vet all of their members before they're allowed to join. This platform also gives you an opportunity to place your own feedback, so if your plumbing consultant is nothing more than an apprentice just out of school, you'll be able to let the world know via the SafeTrade site.
All in all, the way to look at plumbing consulting is to see the occupation as plumbers who usually have additional skills and experience. This does not necessary mean they are any better, instead it may mean that they specialize in certain areas or have specific experience on one area. It is also entirely possible that they will not be the ones who carry out work, instead they will be more involved in the consulting, planning and organizing, similar to a project manager.
