Plumbing Courses

If you're thinking of studying or attending any plumbing courses, it is probably worth taking the time out to understand exactly what is involved before you can say that you're a fully trained plumber. The amount of time, effort and expense may surprise some people. Becoming a plumber is not just about attending plumbing courses and putting your ad in the local newspaper, it requires dedication, hard work and commitment.

The first course you will need to sit on is called the City & Guilds Basic Certificate in Plumbing Studies, most major towns with an adult learning facility or college will offer this course at different times of the year. Even if you're doing this course on a full time basis, you will need to set aside as many as twenty weeks, even then there are no guarantees that you will be successful, so make sure you're ready to work hard!

Once you have successfully worked through the City & Guilds Basic Certificate in Plumbing Studies, it is possible for you to work as an apprentice or in a firm carrying out plumbing duties, although you can not claim to be a fully qualified plumber. Once you start to build upon your own level of experience you can then move onto the next step which is an NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing.

Depending upon your age an experience, many firms will be happy to take you on with one or both of the above plumbing qualifications. Although, you're not quite yet a fully fledged plumber it is very likely that your skills will be available for a lot less than a fully trained and qualified plumber would be, this is why they will be happy to take you on and hope to complete your training, on the job. Depending on how lucky you have been with the firm you begin to work with, they may even finance the last step of the plumbing qualifications.

Which is, City and Guilds Level 3 Plumbing Studies. This is one of the hardest plumbing courses and takes into consideration your existing skills before allowing you to sit the course. There is a large amount of theory work and a greater emphasis is placed upon the technical elements of plumbing, certainly to a deeper degree than was discusses in the NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing.

Once you have attained Level 3 Plumbing Studies award, you are able to consider yourself a fully trained plumber. Of course, you will be required to maintain your education by learning about new systems and technical updates. You can also decide if you would prefer to specialize in a specific area or continue your studies and become CORGI registered for example.

If you're considering attending the above plumbing courses because you have heard how lucrative plumbing can be, in the main it is absolutely true. However, please be advised that only the very best in their profession reach Level 3, we wish you luck as you begin your new career.
